Market Street Bridge in Chattanooga to Undergo Quarterly Testing this Sunday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation will conduct quarterly testing and maintenance on the Market Street Bridge in downtown Chattanooga on Sunday, September 12, 2021 during which time the bridge will be closed to through traffic. From 8:00 a.m. EST to no later than 2:00 p.m. EST, the bridge will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic as the testing is performed. 

Should inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances delay this week’s inspection, it will be rescheduled to take place at a later date. Drivers are advised to use the Olgiati Bridge or the Veterans Bridge as alternate routes while the Market Street Bridge is closed.


Upcoming Construction Road Closures

Hampton Street

Hampton Street between E 3rd Street and Blackford Street will be closed Saturday, September 11th from 7:30 AM until Noon for a crane lift. Detours will be posted via Central Avenue.  Emergency Room access will be maintained via Central/Blackford. 

UTC Crane Lifts

The following roads on the UTC campus will see very brief sidewalk, lane, and/or full closures while multiple crane lifts are conducted on Saturday, September 11th, and early morning Sunday, September 12th:

Campus Drive between McCallie Ave and E 8th Street

E 8th Street between Campus Drive and Palmetto Street

Flaggers will be present directing traffic around any obstructions in the right of way. 

Dodds Avenue

Dodds Avenue between E 47th Street and E 48th Street will be closed Monday, September 13th through Friday, September 24th for a water main replacement. Detours will be posted.

Old Lee Highway

Old Lee Highway between Stonehenge Drive and Green Shanty Road will be closed Monday, September 13th through Friday, September 17thfrom 9 AM until 2:30 PM for citywide services repair work. Detours will be posted via Apison Pike and Bonny Oaks.

2105 Watauga Street

Watauga Street between E 23rd Street and E 21st Street will be closed Monday, September 13th through Wednesday, October 13th for a sewer replacement.  Detours will be posted. 

Lindsay Street - Southbound

Southbound Lindsay Street between Oak Street and McCallie Ave will be closed Monday, September 13th from 9 AM until 4 PM. Detours will be posted via Houston.
